Funnily, I have the opposite feeling. I can’t (and won’t) claim I’m an expert in these matters, but as far as I’m concerned, WW III is inevitable, and will most likely take place during our lifetimes (or shortly thereafter). Also, as was the case with WW II, it will be very similar to the previous one in that it will change the political map drastically, but it will be very different from the previous one warfare- tactics- and strategy-wise.

The careful and controlled escalation we can currently observe ensures me that a) the powers that be are rather afraid of unleashing that daemon just yet, and b) these intentions are well readable and understood from all sides. It still doesn’t guarantee the trigger doesn’t get pulled accidentally, but seeing as how the big war is bound to happen anyway, it doesn’t make much difference.

It goes without saying that the people getting butchered there are the constant source of my endless and relentless pain, but that’s another matter entirely.
