How long would it take you to notice that a single meta element had snuck into some complex markup?

If you don’t control the contents of your own website, the fact that someone else monetizes from it is not the big issue you have. “Oh, I should not be held responsible for whatever is published up there on my website, someone might have hacked it” – just quit using Wordpress and assume some (basic!) responsibility already!

There’s no way to disclaim money sent to you.

This is true (and is a problem, arguably) far beyond the realm of websites. The issue to fix here is “the police are unconvinced”, not somebody’s website.

I don’t have any interest in this WebMonetization thing; I wasn’t even aware of it before reading this post, and I don’t expect it take off in my part of the wood anytime soon: of the two wallet systems listed there, one refused to register me based on my citizenship, and the other outright blocks me from viewing their website. But I hate to see a purely technological measure attacked for its inability to fix society. Fixing society is another matter, don’t rely on technology to do that, please!
