And Then There Was Silence

We have a Bosch Series 4 washing machine. It’s a good one, I like it. Besides, there aren’t many washing machine models that would fit into our apartment, and as far as ultracompacts go, this one rocks. It’s spacious, has lots of programmes, has a quiet night mode — lovely. Has but one problem: it beeps when the washing is done, and the sound is shrill. And it beeps in the night mode, too, so you wake up anyway.

Beyond Hollywood

We watched a great movie yesterday: kind, warm, very touching, with cheerful irony, perfectly played and shot, with awesome cast. I highly recommend: “En man som heter Ove” from Sweden. We also watched “Tudo Bem No Natal Que Vem” (Netflix Brasil) with great pleasure recently. Very nice, too, beautifully played and shot. I admit I quite like all this 21st century, where you can watch movies from different countries on a large screen with decent quality at home.

Subscribe to Comments Is a Thing

Sometimes I would come across a blog post that I’d very much like to read the comments on. Like the Skype question, for example. If the post is old, the comments are already there, but if it is new and people are likely to add new comments and thoughts, I’ll need to re-visit the page later to read the new comments. Keeping track of such pages is a pain in the behind.

It's All About the Power

The supply of electricity in our apartment is not ideal. It probably is mostly still the same as when the house was built in 1967, so it really struggles to keep up with modern consumption. At least once in a couple of months, the power goes out for several seconds and I have to re-set the clock on the microwave oven.

About Fonts and Other Things

Google Chrome (or, rather, Chromium) developers seriously decided to tell me what I can and can not download. The age-old problem of choosing a decent browser strikes again. So, I’m giving Firefox another try… Firefox is being Firefox, of course. Five years proved not enough for them to accept system-ui as a pointer to the system font. Also, on my system, Firefox refuses to use Arial on Github, for instance. Like, CSS says:

Here’s a part of a telephone call I’ve just had: — I understand that you don’t currently do Open Days, with the COVID and all that. Is there a way to learn more about your facilities and staff before signing the contract? — Sure, we’re doing our Open Days online now. If you’re a social networks’ user, check out our Instagram account, we have all the detailed information there, or just visit our website for information.
